At last, the season we have all been waiting for is here. The snow has melted, the grass has seen significant growth, and our oasis in the mountains is ready for a season full of happy golfers. But before you make your return to Old Greenwood, whether it be this weekend or sometime later this summer, we wanted to make you aware of a few changes we have made around the course.

On Course

First and foremost, the course remains the same. As the phrase goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and Old Greenwood is far from broke. The large greens, towering pines, and challenging play of this Jack Nicklaus Signature course remain unchanged. What might change, however, is how you choose to play it. We know how tough the course can be at times and, like you, welcome anything that will assist in strategy.

Tagmarshal GPS System

To help you with your round, we’ve outfitted all of our carts with the Tagmarshal GPS system. As you move throughout the course, you’ll see your location on-screen along with a map of the hole and distance to the front, center, and back of the green. You can tap the screen to plan out shots and get real-time yardages. Additionally, the system allows Travis and his team in the golf shop to keep an eye on pace of play and speed up slow golfers before they become a problem. We really think you’ll like this new feature!

Introducing The Timbers, Tahoe Mountain Club’s new wedding, corporate, and Member event facility.

Old Greenwood House

The home base of golf operations is where you’ll notice significant changes this season. Formerly known as Old Greenwood House, the building that houses the OG golf shop saw the start of a major renovation over the winter. The facility is being converted into a stunning new wedding and events venue we’ve dubbed “The Timbers” (take a look, it’s beautiful). Renovations, though, take time. When you factor in building timelines, delays, and the significant impacts of winter, getting everything wrapped up before golf season was simply not possible. But fear not! We have a plan!

The Golf Shop

The area of the building that previously housed the golf shop will this year house… The golf shop. You read that correctly. Not much is changing there. That said, the outdated carpet has been replaced by beautiful wood floors, a few walls have been removed, and fresh coat of paint has the shop looking mighty fine. Don’t be mistaken, the golf shop didn’t get a permanent facelift, it’s just continuing to live in its old home while the new owners make upgrades, so to speak (crazy real estate market out there). After the renovations are complete throughout the building and the venue is ready for memorable gatherings and soirees, the golf shop will be relocated to a new home.

The golf shop has been spruced up and remains in its previous location for the season.

The Hub & Tahoe Mountain Realty Offices

The coworking space and Tahoe Mountain Realty office across from the golf shop is no more. This area, formerly known as “The Hub,” is currently a construction zone. Crews have put up a temporary wall to contain their dust and noise, but behind that wall the renovation continues. Crews are actively working to convert offices into a commercial kitchen and a coworking space into a reception dining room. The impacts of this work to the average golfer will be minimal. You’ll simply notice you can’t walk through to access The Terrace. More on why that doesn’t matter below.

Tahoe Wedding Venue

The Terrace is being expanded to accommodate weddings, corporate, and Member events.

The Terrace

Few views at Old Greenwood beat the straight shot down 18. With the green in the foreground, mountains in the background, and an endless sea of pines in between, this is where mountain moments happen. We have felt for years that this area was destined for something great. Something so great, that people remember it for the rest of their lives. We crunched the numbers and putting a maternity ward there didn’t make sense, so we settled for the second most memorable day in a person’s life: Their wedding day. The former Terrace is being converted into an outdoor ceremony site and will be part of The Timbers. With an alter, expanded footprint, fire pit, water feature, and fold-away glass walls that lead to the above-mentioned dining room, this space will be something special not just for weddings but for corporate outings as well.
During early summer, the expansion of The Terrace footprint will require a bit of earthwork within earshot of the 18th green. We just hope the cheers and jeers of your golf buddies will drown it out.

Food Truck

So if The Terrace is hard-hat-access-only, where do you grab a bite and a beer? Not at the makeshift location just off of 18 you might have seen late last season. Instead of that, we’ve opted for an upgraded experience via a food truck. Located inside the bag drop-off round-a-bout in front of the golf shop, the food truck offers quick service food and drink before and after your round. We’re still perfecting the concept and dialing in the menu, so expect to see this offering get better and better as we move throughout the season. Rest assured, 6-packs will always be in supply.

Restrooms

Remember that part earlier about renovations taking time? Well, that applies to our restroom situation as well. The golf shop is ready to go but the adjoining bathrooms are not. We anticipate they’ll be ready at some point in the near future, but until then we’ve brought in portables. They’re the nice kind you tend to see at a classy outdoor wedding. Complete with flushing toilets, running water, and air conditioning, trust us when we say you won’t be disappointed.

The Future

We appreciate your patience as we work to upgrade our facilities. While some of these changes might cause a minor inconvenience this season, we assure you they’ll bring countless memories in the coming years. Come 2024 The Timbers will be home to weddings, corporate events, and Member events and the golf shop will be in its new home (in the relocated Golf Academy building) adjacent to The Timbers. By that time any inconvenience caused by construction will be a distant memory.
