Moving to a New Home
Walk into the Old Greenwood Golf Academy this week and you’ll see a much different scene than what you are accustomed to. Holes have been punched in the exterior walls, drywall has been removed from the bottom 3 feet of the interior, and giant steel I-beams have been slid inside the building. The reason for all this work? A pending building move.
Currently located on the far side of the Driving Range, The Golf Academy will soon be cut in two, placed on a truck, and transported a half-mile to the Old Greenwood parking lot. Here, it will be set down next to the Old Greenwood House where it will become the new Old Greenwood Golf Shop.
This move is the final stage of the plan to equip Old Greenwood with a stunning wedding & events center. Work started earlier this year to convert the Old Greenwood House into the new venue which we’ve named “The Timbers.” The venue is expected to be completed later this year. The golf shop is expected to be ready prior to the start of next year’s golf season.
As you can no doubt imagine, moving a building is a complex process requiring specialized equipment and careful practices. In this particular case, the building will be transported along a golf course cart path, down a a stretch of public road, and through a parking lot. To preserve the integrity of the building, transportation must happen at a painstakingly slow pace.
With these facts in mind, we anticipate the move will have significant, but temporary impacts on OldGreenwood Golf Course operations and Old Greenwood neighborhood travel. At this time, we do not know the exact date of the move, but wanted to provide you with an understanding of what to expect.

About The Move
The move will happen over two, one-day periods. One day for each half of the building. As the two halves are different sizes, the anticipated move times are different. The small half should take about 2 hours to move, impacting traffic for 1 hour, the larger half should take about 6 hours to move, impacting traffic for 4 hours.
The process starts with the building being lifted off of its foundation with hydraulic jacks. A truck then backs into place and the building is lowered onto it. Separating the two halves from each other has to be done slowly to ensure no damage. Next, the building will be moved slowly along the Golf Academy cart path toward Trapper’s Trail, a distance of about 800 feet. Once it reaches the junction between 8 green and 9 tee, course play will be temporarily halted. We anticipate a delay of up to ____ minutes while the building travels through this 200 foot section of path. From there, it will continue onto Trapper’s Trail and make a left onto Lookout Loop.
Deconstruct. Move. Reconstruct.
Currently located at the far end of the Old Greenwood Driving Range, The Golf Academy is being prepared for its move to its new home next to the Old Greenwood House.
Once on Lookout Loop, we’ll start to see greater impacts to neighborhood travel. To help you plan, we’ve divided our detour plan into different sections: Lookout Loop Phase and Fairway Drive Phase.
Lookout Loop Phase
Inbound Traffic
- Caleb Cir., Caleb Dr., Gold Rush Trail, Sutter’s Trail, Settler’s Lane, Miners Trail, Legacy Court, & Fairway Drive
- All travel to these streets will be detoured down Fairway Drive. Accessing these properties should face little delay during this phase.
- Lookout Loop & Frontier Trail
- Folks looking to access cabins on Lookout Loop or Frontier Trail will be detoured on a case-by-case basis, depending on the current location of the building.
- Delays of up to several minutes are possible if the building is actively passing your property.
Outbound Traffic
- By default, all outbound traffic should travel on Fairway Drive during this phase. Please avoid the section of Lookout Loop between Trapper’s Trail and Fairway Drive.
- If your home is located on Lookout Loop or Frontier Trail, you’ll be directed east on Lookout Loop if the building has not yet passed or west to Fairway Drive if the building has passed your location.
Fairway Drive Phase
Impacts To The Club
Golfer Parking
As the building makes its way to its final destination, it will pass diagonally through the Old Greenwood parking lot. As a result, this lot will be closed on moving day. Alternatively, a dirt lot located northeast of the Old Greenwood lot will be available for golfer use.
Pavilion Parking
The lot in front the TMC Pavilion will be available for Pavilion use only. Members and guests are welcome to park in the lot, but should do so with the understanding they might be blocked-in for a short time while the building passes by. Additionally, the building move could impact patrons exit toward the freeway while the building makes its turn into the Old Greenwood parking lot. Folks looking to avoid both of these issues should utilize the dirt lot mentioned above.
Absolutely no parking will be permitted along Fairway Drive in front of the Pavilion. This space must be kept clear for the building to pass. Overflow parking will be available in the cul-de-sac on Legacy Court, a short walk to the Pavilion.
Golf Course Impacts
Impacts to the golf experience will be relatively limited in scope. As mentioned above, we anticipate a slight delay to play as the building moves along the cart path between 8 green and 9 tee. Additionally, golfers moving from 9 green to 10 tee across Lookout Loop may be detoured slightly if they encounter the building.
We’ll have staff on hand at both of these locations to assist with the transition from hole to hole.
